ACT Italia’s recognition rewards the work carried out to support touring tourism. Hoffmann Camper Area awarded three stars out of four.

CALTAGIRONE – PARMA, 20 September 2026 – An important national recognition has been awarded to the Hoffmann Camper Area in Caltagirone at the Parma Camper Show, where on Saturday, 19 September, the ceremony for the presentation of the ACT Italia Yellow Flags – Associazione Campeggiatori Turistici d’Italia took place.

The ceremony was held as part of the 17th edition of the Parma Camper Show, hosted at Fiere di Parma from 12 to 20 September 2026, one of Italy’s leading events dedicated to caravanning and open-air tourism.

Among the destinations receiving recognition was Caltagirone, thanks to the Hoffmann Camper Area, located within the Hoffmann multifunctional complex and awarded three stars out of the four available under the Yellow Flag scheme.

The recognition is particularly significant because it rewards not only a facility dedicated to motorhome travellers, but also a wider project aimed at recovering, enhancing and relaunching an area that had previously been abandoned and affected by vandalism.

Private investment to bring the Hoffmann complex back to life for the city

The Hoffmann Camper Area was created thanks to the financial resources of “0-Zero” srl, the company that manages the multifunctional complex owned by the Municipality of Caltagirone.

The project is led by surveyors Gianluca Iurato and Salvatore Raccuglia, who over the years have directly supervised the work required to redevelop the site, investing their own financial resources in a process that has restored functionality, dignity and new prospects to a complex that had previously fallen into disuse and deterioration.

Today, the Hoffmann complex is a multifaceted destination combining tourism, culture and hospitality. Alongside the camper area stands the Hoffmann Museum, created within the former “Conadomini” industrial complex and progressively becoming a point of reference for cultural events, exhibitions, initiatives and activities aimed at promoting the local area.

The recognition received in Parma therefore represents another important milestone in a project designed to integrate motorhome tourism with the discovery of Caltagirone’s historical, artistic and cultural heritage.

ACT Italia describes the Yellow Flag as a recognition awarded to destinations that encourage and support touring campers by providing suitable services and facilities, with the aim of promoting itinerant tourism as an opportunity for the development of local communities.

The managers: “A result that was far from guaranteed”

The managers of Hoffmann Camper Area, Gianluca Iurato and Salvatore Raccuglia, expressed great satisfaction:

“Receiving this national-level recognition in such a prestigious setting as the Parma Camper Show is a source of great satisfaction for us. It is the result of a journey that began several years ago, when we decided to believe in the potential of the Hoffmann complex and to invest our own financial resources, time and energy in recovering a site that had been in a serious state of abandonment, making it usable once again and placing it at the disposal of the city and of everyone choosing to visit Caltagirone.”

The managers particularly emphasised the result achieved through the scheme’s assessment process:

“Obtaining three stars out of the four available under the Yellow Flag scheme was a particularly demanding achievement. The assessment requires compliance with numerous requirements and standards relating to hospitality, services and the overall quality of the area. For a facility created through a redevelopment project largely supported by private resources, this result has even greater value for us.”

Iurato and Raccuglia then expressed their sincere thanks to Gaetano “Tony” Gagliano, national Vice-President of ACT Italia and, among his responsibilities, a reference point for Sicily:

“A special thank you goes to Tony Gagliano, Vice-President of ACT Italia, who followed our journey with great attention and with whom we established a relationship characterised by openness, availability and cooperation.”

Their thanks were also extended to the entire ACT Italia National Board 2026–2029, made up of President Giancarlo Valenti, Vice-President Gaetano “Tony” Gagliano, Secretary Agnese Leasi, Treasurer Fulvio Passaniti, and board members Luigi Pozzi, Angela Barozzi and Umberto Costantini.

“We thank President Giancarlo Valenti and all the members of the ACT Italia National Board for the work they carry out in support of touring tourism and for the attention the Federation devotes to destinations and facilities capable of providing quality services to motorhome travellers.”

Iurato and Raccuglia continued: “We also sincerely thank Mrs Angela Barozzi, head of the Yellow Flag scheme, for the availability, attention and professionalism she demonstrated throughout the accreditation process. The ongoing dialogue enabled us to fully understand the required standards and to approach the assessment process with the utmost seriousness.”

A new opportunity for tourism in Caltagirone

The awarding of the Yellow Flag strengthens Caltagirone’s position within the motorhome and touring tourism sector, a market capable of generating benefits not only for accommodation facilities, but also for local businesses, restaurants, crafts and services throughout the area.

The aim of Hoffmann Camper Area is to serve as a genuine gateway to the city, allowing motorhome travellers to leave their vehicles in a fully equipped area and easily reach the historic centre, museums, the famous Scala di Santa Maria del Monte and the main attractions of Caltagirone.

“We do not regard this recognition as a final destination,” conclude Gianluca Iurato and Salvatore Raccuglia. “The three stars we have received must serve as an incentive to continue improving. We will keep investing in Hoffmann Camper Area and in the entire complex, with the aim of offering increasingly high-quality services and making a concrete contribution to the growth of tourism in Caltagirone.”

The Yellow Flag awarded at the Parma Camper Show thus becomes recognition of a journey that began with the redevelopment of an abandoned site and transformed it, through initiative, investment and hard work, into a new facility serving both the city and the touring tourism sector.
